Empowered teams, in technology companies, are cross-functional teams which have been given the freedom to solve business problems for a specific area, in their own way. Typically, the problem areas are a subset of the company and product strategy. Examples of problem areas that product teams might be empowered to work on include user onboarding, user activation, product discovery, conversion, checkout, and user retention.
